Description
The modern diesel fuel system specialists at S&S Diesel Motorsport® have created another solution to a fuel system problem tormenting Ford Super Duty pickup truck owners. Plastic is a great material for fuel filtration due its corrosion resistance, yet the material’s strength can degrade after many heat cycles. This degradation has created a recipe for disaster for Ford trucks equipped with the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel. The plastic engine-mounted fuel filter can crack and spray fuel onto a hot inboard exhaust system and start the taboo four-letter word that automotive engineers renamed a “thermal event.” As if cracking fuel filters weren’t enough to worry about, the fitting that returns fuel from the injectors is also made of plastic, creating two potential leak points.
The Ford 6.7L Fuel Leak Prevention Kit (LPK) is the only all-in-one solution to both problems that meets and exceeds the OEM filtration specifications. Ford’s filtration is great; the problem lies with the plastic’s durability. The billet aluminum LPK solves that real problem. Yet the fuel system engineers at S&S are not going to create one problem by solving another. The decision was made to forgo the OEM fuel filter cup altogether and use a two-post mount that allows for a much larger filter that retains the factory filtration specs of 4-micron absolute at 99% efficiency and nearly double the dirt holding capacity (S&S 23 grams vs. OEM 12 grams). Fixing one leak point while leaving another does not make sense, so the aluminum Fuel Leak Prevention Fitting for the injector return comes standard with all kits. In summary, the S&S LPK prevents fuel leaks without sacrificing filtration.
In a two-filter system, upgrading one filter without changing the other is not ideal. To make it easy, S&S created the Ford 6.7L Fuel Leak Prevention Kit Plus that bundles the LPK with a chassis-mounted replacement filter. Individual replacement filters and filter kits will are readily available from the global S&S Dealer network.
